The Gemini Perception Platform is Ouster's first foray into software solutions for their lidar sensors. It's purpose is simple, but opportunity is endless. Gemini allows the user to detect, classify and track objects in motion in the environment the lidar sensors are scanning. This means comprehensive and accurate people tracking in real time across large complex environments.
The promise and opportunity of Gemini meant approaching the launch in an entirely new way for Ouster. Whereas we sold sensors to down the funnel engineers and hardware implementers, we had to sell Gemini to up the funnel business leaders and strategists. This meant showcasing what the platform allows you to do, rather than diving too deep into how it does it.

Scale was also a big strategy. Camera's have trouble tracking one object, let alone the hundreds of objects that Gemini allows. As illustrated by this train station use case.
Officially launched and demo'd Gemini live on the show floor of our CES experience. Having it functioning on our show floor became a great case study of it's application as written about in our blog post here.
